A Sight for Sore Eyes

Peanut had a little unknown injury yesterday. I went to clean her cage and she woke up and I saw that one of her eyes was swollen. Basically, she had a black eye.The eye itself is not injured, but the eyelid is a little puffy and pink. Like humans, if it truly is a "black eye", it will heal up in no time. The worst case scenario is if it actually drew blood, and there will be an infection. If that is the case, I will have to specially treat it best as I can, and there will be a scar, giving her a slight "winking" look that will be permanent. Hamster injuries can not really be helped, since they are so small!! (I will upload pictures once I fix the computer of all technical difficulties.)(Note: People who are terrified of rodents, and are squeamish will probably not care for these pictures. Okay, not to be rude, but I honestly have no sympathy. I LOVE Critters!)

  1. I hope Peanut is feeling better I find it very interesting that animals like people can suffer from the same type of injuries. I never would have imagined that a Hamster could get a black eye.

    1. Hamsters can get almost any injury there is. They are very small and can get their tiny bodies injured easily! Peanut is feeling good but she does not want to play in her ball or run on her wheel. All she wants to do is sleep and eat. That s what you are supposed to do when you are injured anyway, so I am not worried.
