Requests and A New Pet - Merry Christmas!!

It's Christmas Day, everyone, and we have a new pet addition.

Meet Russell...my new adorable guinea pig. In the future he will be housed in a C&C cage but for now this rabbit/guinea pig cage is what he calls home. (AND IT'S HUGE!)
He is already the best guinea pig ever....

In January I will have loads more on what I buy for him...etc....
But for now lets just give a warm welcome to Russell!
Seriously, it's Christmas and nobody really has a lot of time to read all that stuff anyway,(neither do I to write all this) so I will save those for later. I cannot WAIT for this new year.....it means lots of new posts from Critter Corner and plenty of surprises!

I must say, the holidays have really made me busier and unable to blog here on CC, and this  must say, the holidays have really made me busier and unable to blog here on CC, and this Christmas I have not been able to do any critter info Christmas posts like last year

Next little thing is a request I got from my aunt who reads Critter Corner often.( I made a special post especially for her arthritic dog Conan a long time ago - here the link is if you would like to read http://naturegirlscrittercorner.blogspot.com/2012/12/natural-remedies-for-dog-arthritis.html. )

Anyways, here is a list of makeup products that do not test on animals. Chickadee Taps on Window?

One of my Blogger buddies told me about a mysterious chickadee bird tapping on the window. Here is some info and links you might want to check out, along with plenty of my own information.

"Black-Capped Chickadees are bold and inquisitive and are usually the first to find a new feeder. They appreciate a reliable food source and have been known to tap on windows if the feeder runs low."

The Chickadee may be trying to get your attention or most likely get in. A good solution is to check the feeder for daily fillings, or look for something that is irritating the bird. For example, a large squirrel was bombarding our feeder, and the birds got angry at him. They perched in the pear trees and would chirp loudly.  We put out safflower seeds and not as many squirrels came.

Do you feed the birds? If so, they have an uncanny ability to sense when the seeds are going out. We have  chickadees and titmice, purple finches, mourning doves and nut hatches near out house. Everyday at noon they gather in the two trees in front of our door and wait for us to open it and spread some seed on the grass and patio. It's great fun to see and hear them.

Another reason for your bird to go from window to window is that it sees its own reflection in the glass and thinks it's another bird. We had a bird last year who kept attacking our glass patio door all day long until it was exhausted. We didn't know what to do. Finally, we put a piece of cardboard over the door and that seemed to work.

Good Luck!

More Recent Questions and Updates

Daisy: Wow, I think I skipped a Question Tuesday or something.....

Peanut: I guess so. Anyway, what are the questions for this week, huh?

Daisy: Let me see now--ah, yes....the first person emailed Critter Corner asking how much do guinea pigs cost.

Peanut: Maybe they're putting the thought of getting one into consideration! Oh, but, isn't that like slavery?

Daisy: What do ya' mean?

Peanut: You know...I don't think people should buy animals. Buying living beings was banned by George Washington.

Daisy: I thought it was a different president. Abe Lincoln. Or was it Teddy Roosevelt? Whoever that is. Or maybe James Garfield. Was it a president at all? Oh man, I really need to touch up on my social studies skills.

Peanut: Whatever. The answer is this: around 10 dollars. The cage is the expensive part. Um, I was wondering, where exactly do you get these random questions??

Daisy: I get the questions from the people who ask them!!!! Where else would they come from????

Peanut: Well, you could make them up because nobody really does email us. I know it!

Daisy: THEY DO TOO!! I ask people to mail us all the time! To prove it, I have another question send by air-mail: AH-HEM.....(smooths out letter) ........ A person wonders what our favorite foods are.

Peanut: That's so easy-peasy! I LOVE-LOVE-LOVE carrots, cucumbers, apples, sunflower seeds......

Daisy: Uh....oh-kay, we get the message! My turn next! My favorite foods are yogurt drops, crackers, pumpkin seeds, popcorn...

Peanut: NOT processed food! Veggies and fruits, you know what I mean. That's obviously why you're so fat!

Daisy: I am not fat.

Peanut: YES YOU ARE!!

Daisy: (whispering) Please stop saying that--your embarrassing me on national TV!

Peanut: Ha! Well, good! (in a sing-song voice)YOU are fa-aht, ohhh, you arrrrre FAh-t....

Daisy: AM not!

Peanut: Then why did you say you eat processed foods.

Daisy: One, yogurt drops are NOT processed, and two, I am NOT  FAT!!!!!

Peanut: Whoa.

Peanut: Uh, that's all, for now on Critter Corner, and a note to all yogurt drop-eaters, don't eat too many like Daisy here, or you'll get F-A-T!

And here is a picture I put up of a healthy food to eat. YUM! And it won't make you fat!

Daisy: (weakly)I'm...not..f-a...ttt.......

Peanut: I didn't say anything.

Recent Questions

Alright, folks!!  Here is the moment you've all been waiting for:  It's time for......Daisy and Peanut's Question Tuesdays!!!!!

Daisy: Hey Peanut, I got the first question: Somebody contacted Critter Corner because there were swans in their backyard. Why is that...?

Peanut: Hmmmm...(typing on the computer) Ah, yes, I see now. It says here that swans migrate in the winter. They stop often for breaks, unlike geese. This particular person who asked the question has a very wooded backyard, so that means wild animals will visit them often. That is actually a compliment from a swan!!

Daisy: Oh. Well, you learn something new every day. The next question is from a well-known resident at Critter Corner Headquarters.  She wants to know if snakes are critters.

Peanut: shiver- Please please please don't talk about s-s-snakes!! You know I am terrified of them.

Daisy:  Well, Julia likes snakes!!! You have to answer the question because that's what Question Tuesdays are about!! I mean, deal with it.

Peanut: okay, well,  not ex-ex-exactly b-b-b-because they don't crawl--they slither...

Daisy: Sheesh! That isn't a very good answer.....

Peanut: Just move on to the next question, please!!

Daisy: Oh, alright..... A rabbit friend of mine wanted to know how the weekly poll worked.

Peanut: Ooh-- I know!! The weekly poll is a poll that I get to change every week and you choose one of the suggestions. Today I get to change it so you'll see a new one.

Daisy: And did you know that the results of this weeks poll are...

Peanut: Well.....? What?

Daisy: Uh, you're supposed to say the results.

Peanut: Oh... OH!!! The results for the question " do you have a small pet?" are....  20% for YES!,
60% for NO, BUT I AM THINKING ABOUT GETTING ONE, 20% for NO AND I WOULD NEVER EVER WANT ONE!, and 0% for WHAT'S A SMALL PET??

Just click on the answer you agree with, then click on vote.

Daisy:  Ahem, I have a question--this is the last one. I want to know who voted on NO AND I WOULD NEVER EVER WANT ONE! Maybe they would like to comment and answer that question for us.

Peanut: Was that you???

Daisy:  OF COURSE NOT!! Well, that's all for now on Critter Corner!!!!!!!

Peanut:  Hey! That was MY line!
